RAM Study 

You may qualify for the RAM Study if you:

  • Are 16-24 years old
  • Are not diagnosed with any serious medical conditions
  • Are not diagnosed with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia
  • Are not pregnant or nursing
  • Do not have non-removable metal in your body

 

What does the study involve?

Eligibility Evaluation: Participants (and their parent, if under 18 years old) complete a remote video evaluation that includes interviews and surveys about sleep, mood, and medical history to determine eligibility (up to $30).

Sleep Monitoring and Sleep Lab Visit: If eligible, participants are invited to participate in at-home sleep tracking and two overnight lab visits at the UPMC Sleep and Behavioral Neuroscience Center, which involve sleep-circadian measures, behavioral tasks, and a brain scan (up to $500).

Follow-up Assessments: After the sleep lab visits, participants complete follow-up surveys, sleep tracking, and evaluations for up to 3 years (up to $570).

Information provided will be kept confidential.  We take participants’ privacy very seriously – all data is kept in locked cabinets, password-protected/encrypted computers, or secure databases. 

Participation is voluntary. Participation in this research study is completely voluntary. You may refuse to take part in it, or you may stop participating at any time. 

Compensation Information. No payment is provided for this brief, initial online screening.  If you are eligible and decide to participate, you will be compensated for each phase of the study (up to $1070 total).
