SleepChart Details

Participation in the SleepChart study involves the following:

  1. Eligibility Evaluation: Participants (and their parent/guardian, if under 18 years old) complete a one-hour remote video assessment including study consent, eligibility determination, and study overview.
  2. Onboarding Session: Eligible participants will attend a one-hour virtual session where they will be taught how to use a daily sleep diary and sleep monitoring devices for at home sleep tracking. Online surveys will also be completed.
  3. Sleep Tracking: Participants will monitor their sleep at home for one week. They will wear an activity watch continuously and a sleep recording device on their head overnight. Each morning, they will fill out a 5-minute diary about last night’s sleep.
  4. Sleep Lab Visit: At an overnight visit in our sleep lab in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh, participants will complete surveys, provide a hair sample, and record their sleep overnight with polysomnography (PSG). The next morning, they will do a brief light sensitivity test (pupillometry) and a cognitive test.
  5. Follow-up Assessments: After the sleep lab visit, participants complete two annual online follow-up surveys at home, sent to them via email or text. Each one lasts around 30 minutes.

Compensation is up to $455.
